Headquartered in Nicosia, Cyprus, Owlcat Games is a relatively young but ambitious studio that was formed when a group of game development industry veterans decided to create their own classic single-player CRPG. They made their mark with Pathfinder: Kingmaker in 2018 and now their second game –Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous– is available on Xbox.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is an indirect continuation of Pathfinder: Kingmaker, and is set five years after the events of the first game in a nation of Mendev who, led by the ever-young Queen Galfrey, have been repelling demonic invasion for nearly a century. Now it’s your turn to take on the role of the Knight-Commander of the new crusade and make a difference in the standoff against the demonic forces.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous offers the same extensive and versatile class system that is familiar to players of both the table version and Pathfinder: Kingmakerbut you can choose from an even larger number of classes and archetypes compared to the previous game.
However, new classes, feats and abilities are not the only addition to the mechanical part of the game. in the Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, you gain incredible mythical powers that will eventually allow you to compete with the demon lord himself and uncover their plans. The mythical powers not only give you access to unique spells and abilities, they can transform you into a completely different being. A righteous angel, a savage demon, a freedom-loving azata, or a lich who commands the undead. You can also become an aeon that upholds the cosmic order; a golden dragon who melts the hardest of hearts with his kindness and compassion; or a vicious, insatiable swarm that goes, knowing no rest, until it devours the whole world! And if none of these paths appeal to you, you can choose the path of a legend, a hero who does not need mythical powers and draws strength from his own heart.
You will not face this adventure alone – you will be accompanied by a group of different characters who will help you along the way. Some of them will offer you their friendship, others will be difficult to win; and there’s even a cast of characters to fall in love with, including a former succubus who dreams of redemption – Arueshalae, familiar to anyone who’s played the tabletop version of Adventure Path.
The crusade system adds another layer of strategy to the game and truly puts you in the shoes of a knight commander. You will recruit loyal generals and troops to fight the demonic hordes, win valuable trophies and claim the treasures of the Worldwound. Build fortifications on the lands you conquer and make important decisions, establish supply lines, recruit the political forces of Mendev at your side and decide how to train the soldiers in your army.
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is truly a PRG of mythic proportions, taking you on a journey of 80 hours or more to the distant land of Mendev, the devastated Worldwound region, and even an alien chaotic realm of the Abyss.
