Did you know that many devices are more complete than they suggest? In many cases, smartphones, wearables, and other products include the hardware needed to use many features that get activated post-launch for various reasons (or never get activated, in the worst case).

For example, some watches are equipped with the necessary sensors to use advanced health functions; but many countries require special permits for everything related to our health, due to the potential danger to human lives. That’s what happened to Fitbit with its latest wristbands and wearables, and that’s what happened to Huawei.
Huawei Watches are now more complete
Today, Huawei announced that it has received the CE certification required to deliver some of the most advanced health features of its latest smartwatches, the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro and Huawei Watch D: ECG and blood pressure measurement.
In reality, both models already had all the necessary sensors and hardware to offer these features, and Huawei had already developed the software and it was already available in some countries. But the European Community requires certain procedures to be passed before approving the use of this type of technology, and that is exactly what Huawei has just achieved.
Specifically, the Watch GT 3 Pro and Watch D feature a high-performance ECG (electrocardiogram) sensor, which allows the user’s sinus rhythm to be analyzed in real time, directly through the watch app. This can be particularly helpful in identifying irregular heart rhythms, which can be a symptom of possible conditions leading to a stroke; however, it should be clear that the final word will be our healthcare professional, who will be the one interpreting this data.
For our daily life, the most important thing is that these watches will now be able to warn us of possible heart irregularities, as well as present us with personalized health advice. This is in addition to the technologies already offered by these watches, such as blood oxygen monitoring (SpO2) and heart rate tracking.
In addition, the Huawei Watch D has also received the necessary certification to enable blood pressure functions. It works by pressing a button, through which the watch is able to take blood pressure measurements with its compact mini-pump and the airbag mechanism which is hidden in the watch strap, but which, until present, has not been of much use.
This opens up many possibilities, such as setting up personalized measurement plans as reminders to measure our blood pressure at scheduled times.
