Steve Jobs already said it in the opening speech of the call Antenna door: Apple devices are not perfect. These are electronic devices that undergo countless quality and safety tests, but in a small percentage they can still fail. And we have a recent example with an Apple Watch that seems to have overheated.
A probable case of an overheated battery
The event was collected in 9to5Mac: the owner of an Apple Watch Series 7 noticed one day that his watch was warmer than normal. When he went to consult him, he saw that on the screen there was a high temperature warning, and that its back (where the sensors are) had cracks. That in itself is odd, given that the ambient temperature at the time was around 21 degrees.
The owner called Apple Support for help, and the company asked him to leave the watch somewhere and not touch it until a manager contacts him again. The next day, still waiting for this new contact, the user fell on the Apple Watch even hotter and with cracks on the screen. He tried to hold it so he could send more photos to Apple, but as he did, he started to hear a “crack” sound and dropped it. The watch was so hot it started to smoke and left a mark on the couch.
Logically, the Apple Watch is disabled, which the user recorded on video:
As a precaution, the user decided to go to the doctor in case the fumes emitted by the damaged watch could be harmful. The good news here is that the materials of the Apple Watch are not present in sufficient quantities to be harmful
A new call to Apple’s support service has been made by the company elevate the case to “top priority”, and after a few days the company sent a special box to put the remains of the watch in and send it to a company repair center. Apparently Apple asked the user not to comment on this with the media, but the user decided to speak to 9to5Mac by providing material from the video above and the one you can see below:
Everything seems to indicate that the battery of this Apple Watch was defective. An Apple technician we contacted since Appleswill and that we remain anonymous at your request confirmed this hypothesis as the most logical for such a case. It’s extremely rare, but it’s not impossible for an Apple Watch unit to suffer because it unfortunately slipped a badly made battery (or the user has accidentally bumped the device).
As we’ve said before, Apple is very thorough with its batteries as it still has the memory of more massive failures like the Galaxy Note 7. Keeping tabs on that is no joke, although it still can happen that one or the other battery overheats. No Apple Watch Series 7 is known to have had this issue without prior flaws, so This is an extremely isolated case. as we have also seen in some iPhone 6s or with a Redmi A6 more recently.
