System Shock delayed again, but there could be a release window eventually

delayed, eventually, release, shock, System, window

There’s no specific date yet, and it doesn’t seem like there will be any more this year, but system shock A remake may finally be out next year.

The ad is courtesy of trading wizard and press poster Wario64, who noticed that the remaster’s Steam page appears to have been updated to March 2023 (thanks Eurogamer). No official announcement regarding a release date has been confirmed yet, but as of now, the game is expected to be released sometime this year. Although considering how much time is left in this year, the delay to next year is not surprising.

Developer night dive studio, the System Shock remake was born as a Kickstarter project in 2016, with an initial expected release date of 2017. This obviously never happened, and the game has received many delays over the years, bringing us to the point where it’s more of a ‘when it comes out’ situation.

According to the game’s Steam description, it’s “a complete remake of the groundbreaking 1994 original, combining frenetic gameplay with new high-definition visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface, and all-new sound and music; it even has The voice actor of the original SHODAN, one of gaming’s most iconic villains.”

The third installment in the series was at one point in development, but unfortunately it may be dead in the water. Warren Spector is basically suggesting that his version of System Shock 3 is no longer in production, and that Tencent will be the company driving the franchise if it wants to.

Despite the lengthy development time, the System Shock remake looks like it might actually turn out to be pretty good, iGamesNews said of the game’s preview: “Right now, it looks like a remake – but it’s self-aware, self-conscious of — critical, and keen to prove themselves to anyone who has been critical of the project since it was originally conceived.”
