It looks like Overwatch 2’s controversial phone feature is making its way to Modern Warfare 2

like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Players will need to connect their phone number to their Battle.net account before playing the game.

According to a notice posted on Blizzard’s support page, it states that two-factor authentication called SMS Protect is required to play the shooter (thanks to PC Gamer).

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, newly created Overwatch 2 accounts, and newly created Call of Duty: Modern Warfare accounts require you to add a phone number to your Battle.net account.”
