Star Citizen hat no release date And with good reason: Even ten years after the game was first presented, the space MMO is still being worked on, because the plans are comprehensive and the size of the universe is almost endless. Chief developer Chris Roberts and his team recently discussed the future of Star Citizen again at Citizencon.
However, according to a recent survey of 5,000 GameStar readers, the long development time is becoming more and more of a concern for impatience – and disbelief. Accordingly, 24 percent are of the opinion that Star Citizen “never becomes a real game”.
User Ämreh comments: “I f ind it a bit funny how some people criticize Star Citizen for still being unfinished after 10 years, but bring the argument to GTA 6 ‘of course it looks like it’s still unfinished’. , ›Game development just takes a long time‹, ›People have no idea about game development‹.«
“It’s funny that these arguments only apply to GTA 6, which has far more budget, over 2x as many developers AND that a long-standing company makes on the basis of RDR2.”
The skepticism is certainly also related to the frequent postponements together in the past few years; publicly announced features were often implemented much later than promised in the playable alpha version of the project. Many are already playing Star Citizen
At the same time, however, there is also a large proportion of people in the GameStar community who have already played the aforementioned alpha at least once, or to be more precise, they are a whopping third of the survey participants. 21 percent even say that they already find Star Citizen “great”, 12 percent have stopped playing the alpha for the time being. User JackTF writes in the comments:
»Star Citizen [ist, Anm. d. Red.] a game to be enjoyed with multiple players. But you also have to be resistant to frustration because there are simply a lot of bugs at the moment. […] With the long term, I understand those who are very skeptical about the project. No problem: just wait it out and judge the game when it’s released.«
Eye_Screaming_Sandwich criticizes the slow progress; he looks into the game during the regular free weekends (free fly): “The development is really a total mess, but I don’t really care, the topic is interesting, if the game gets good then all the better, if not it doesn’t matter. «

It is striking that only a small minority stated that they “didn’t care at all” about Star Citizen (7 percent). Meanwhile, 21 percent of the users who took part in our non-representative survey are being patient: either this quarter is quite skeptical about the game but wants to “watch it at some point” (12 percent), or the readers state that they are only interested in the separate single-player campaign Squadron 42 (9 percent).
