Microsoft declared to the UK regulatorthe CMA, in response to the fact that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard could affect competition. Now according to Tom Warren (editor of The Verge), it appears that the Redmond company intended to Lift Xbox Game Pass on PlayStationand Sony refused it.
According to information from WarrenMicrosoft argues that this further harms competition that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard could.
They also specify that PlayStation players will be able to continue to purchase future deliveries of Call of Dutyand while they’ll also be added to Game Pass, of course “it’ll be cheaper than buying and upgrading to an Xbox console.”
What does the CMA say?
For now, the CMA does not position itself very favorably of the purchase, arguing that it would constitute a serious danger to competition between consoles. They cite the “network effect,” where the more popular console attracts more content, which in turn attracts more gamers to the gaming world. So ultimately, that would be positive for everyone.
As you can see, disputes continue between Microsoft, Sony, and regulators over the Activision Blizzard takeover. And it doesn’t look like it’s gonna end anytime soonsince practically every week we have new news about it.
I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember, so you can tell I like talking about it.
