The identity and purpose of the three mystics
Since their appearance, the three mystics have been credited as The Dweller, played by Bridie Sisson, The Nomad, played by Edith Poor, and The Ascetic, played by Kali called Kopae. Her song in the official soundtrack is entitled “The Mystics”. Not much more was known about her for a long time.
As the final episodes of The Rings of Power progressed, we saw more and more of the Mystics. Their leader in particular has enormous magical powers and can control fire. Now we know that the three were in search of the stranger, not to destroy him, but to serve him.
The three mystics reveal themselves to the stranger as followers of Sauron. They came from Rhun to serve the stranger they see as their Dark Master. They show him the extent of his power and want to teach Rhun how to use it and regain his strength.
However, it is unclear who sent them, and whether there are more of their kind. There could be a whole sect of Sauron servants with supernatural powers searching for the missing Dark Lord.
The bitter fate of the mystics
The Mystics only tracked the Harfeet and Nori Brandybuck because they were on the trail of the Stranger. When they finally find and capture him, Nori and Sadoc rush to Lochner’s aid. Together they manage to free the stranger who helps them defeat the mystics.
The mystics then realize that the stranger is not their master Sauron, but one of the Istari. The stranger can put out the fire of “the dweller” and easily takes on the remaining acolytes.
The stranger reveals himself to be a sorcerer and uses the wand of one of the mystics as a catalyst for his powerful magic. With it, the evil agents from Rhun are rendered harmless in a radiant wave of light and turned into moths.
Is this the last we saw of the mystics? Will the stranger Istar and Nori meet more of their kind in Rhun? Season 2 of “The Rings of Power” will show it next year at the latest.
