Logitech shows a heart for aspiring streamers and anyone who would like to immortalize their likeness in videos or live streams. The new StreamCam costs 159 euros, but wants to convince with a lot of performance and simple operation thanks to in-house capture software. We have clamped the good piece on tripod and monitor to determine whether the purchase is worthwhile.
The Logitech StreamCam is available in two colors, graphite and white. The compact camera is reminiscent of a larger webcam and can be used flexibly. On the one hand there is a monitor holder. It is removable, and the camera can also be rotated so that upright videos are also possible. Extremely practical if you want to produce for Instagram & Co. Also included is an adapter to mount the camera on a tripod if desired. Very fine.
The connection is made via a non-replaceable, 1.5 meter long USB Type-C cable, which could have been a little longer, especially with regard to tripod use. An adapter to use the camera on a normal USB 3.0 port is unfortunately not included. We would have expected that at the rather high price.

A high-quality glass lens with 3.7 mm focal length and 78 degree field of view is built into the camera, which enables good image settings. The StreamCam supports resolutions up to 1080p at a maximum refresh rate of 60 frames per second, so it enables high-quality videos. The only weak point: in weaker light, the picture becomes relatively grainy, so you should pay attention to reasonable lighting. Also on board is a microphone that can be used in mono, stereo and dual mono mode. The microphone is okay, but you shouldn't expect miracles. For reasonable sound quality in videos and live streams, we recommend using an external microphone.
Logitech has provided free capture software for use with the StreamCam. Although it is a little too nested, it supports a number of useful features. The software is designed for use with two sources, e.g. camera and game, with appropriate presets for recording and streaming. It is possible to record videos directly via the software. Screenshots can also be created. The signals from the two sources can be easily placed using drag & drop and various pre-settings for the arrangement. This is quick and easy. Thanks to compatibility with Xsplit and OBS, streams are easy to configure.
The camera can be used with the software in resolutions 360p, 720p and 1080p, either vertically or horizontally. The frame rates can be set to 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 frames per second. The selection of the video encoder, preferably the graphics card, is also possible without any problems.

There is no shortage of useful features. Auto focus and automatic white balance are available as well as auto framing, i.e. the camera automatically tries to center your face within the field of view, so that you don't have to sit in front of the cam as if nailed down. Brightness, contrast and saturation can be set, there are also flicker filters and filters for blue or green screens. Painfully, however, we lack an option to properly mix the audio signals from the sound sources. There would be a little more.
In practical use, however, the StreamCam and software convince quite easily once you have got used to the somewhat nested menus. The camera scores with solid lighting with good image quality, simple operation and flexible application options.
Accesses when …… you need a good quality, flexible camera with easy-to-use software and useful features.
Save it if …… you want to do without an external microphone or you generally work in rather dim lighting.
Conclusion
Logitech's new camera leaves an overall good impression and scores with its simple operation and variable application options thanks to software that is rich in options, albeit a little nested. The image quality is good as long as there is enough light, the numerous automatic settings ensure that many small inconveniences can be solved quickly and easily.
A small weak point is the microphone and its sparse setting options in the software. You have to speak quite loudly to get reasonably usable recordings, and we lack the ability to mix the microphone and in-game sound properly. An external microphone is clearly the better solution for aspiring streamers.
All in all, the StreamCam is a sensible solution for all those who want to easily incorporate their portrait into streams and videos. However, the price of 159 euros is quite juicy, we recommend waiting until the street price has dropped a bit.
