The stealth action classic Splinter Cell is known to be getting a remake, but now the project has to accept a major setback: the game director is leaving Ubisoft.

The omens could certainly be better: The remake of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell has to accept a setback, because David Grivel, the game director of the game, is now leaving the development studio Ubisoft. In this respect, the developer has to fill the chief post around the title again.

Grivel announced his departure himself via LinkedIn; he will therefore take on a new position at another company in the games industry. This step certainly comes as a bit of a surprise, after all, Grivel had already worked at Ubisoft for a long time, including as lead designer of the shooter Far Cry 6. But after more than 10 years at Ubisoft Toronto, that’s the end of it.

It is not yet known who is to take over the post of game director at Ubisoft Toronto after Grivel in relation to the remake of Splinter Cell. There is also no statement to date as to whether Grivel’s departure will have an impact on the development process of the remake or not. In this regard, an official statement from Ubisoft remains to be seen.

The Splinter Cell remake was announced in December 2021, but since then the project has been largely silent. Only a few bits of information got through to the outside, for example that the story is being adapted for today’s more modern audience.

Meanwhile, Grivel ends up at People Can Fly, the developer studio behind Gears of War: Judgment and Bulletstorm. There he will fill the post of creative director in the future. It is not known which next game he will be working on there.
