It has been a long time. In fact, it’s been so long that it’s personally hard to believe this is real and not just another leak. Revealed today during Konami’s Silent Hill transmission, a remake of one of the most prolific games in the horror genre has been announced – Silent Hill 2.
As previous rumors and leaks have suggested, the remake is currently in development by Team Bloober. The developers back horror films Layers of Fear and Medium, both of which are pretty average, making me glad I lowered my expectations a bit before jumping into transmission. I think we can all rest assured now that these leaks can at least be fixed.
Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, and Silent Hill 3’s creature designer Masahiro Ito (who is also the art direc tor of 2 and 3) is finally back. With the addition of Pyramid Head creator Ito himself, this remake is already showing some promise. Now let’s just hope the Bloober team can get it out of the bag.
Akira Yamaoka, the preeminent composer of the soundtracks for the first three Silent Hill games (which I consider to be the best ever), as well as the composer of several later games in the series, will also be involved in the development of the Silent Hill 2 remake.
Silent Hill 2 follows James Sunderland through a sinister town as he tries to find his wife after receiving a letter from her. The problem, however, is that Mary (James’ wife) died three years ago. And then it’s a hellish journey that gets progressively more chaotic, which is awesome.
Given that the PS1 style is part of Silent Hill 2’s strengths, it will be interesting to see how the remake performs. What do you think of this classic remake?
