Since the inception of Dragon Ball, many people have discovered their favorite pastime in this series. Whether through anime or manga, the universe created by Akira Toriyama has a legion of fans who remain loyal to him year after year. In fact, with the premiere of Dragon Ball: Super, the franchise has resurfaced and recently we were also able to enjoy the premiere of the new movie: Dragon Ball Super: Superhero. Without a doubt, great news for those of us who are followers of Goku and his friends.
Today I come to bring you the analysis of a new game belonging to this great franchise. Dragon Ball: The Breakers has appeared to offer us a game in the style of Dead by Daylight. One villain, seven civilians, and one goal: get out alive. Leaving behind the gory style provided by the previous game and bridging the gap a bit, The Breakers is here for all fans of that style. Don’t forget that we come from episodes like Dragon Ball FighterZ or Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Two games with two completely different styles, now comes the third installment of the games of dragonball. Will he live up to it and keep the Dragon Ball name high? We will see it.
technical part
As expected, here we can enjoy the typical graphics to which these games have accustomed us. Nothing crazy and of course we are talking about a version cross gen, so it doesn’t take full advantage of the potential of the X|S series consoles. Despite this, the game manages to respond stably to what was expected of it. Although this seems to be a bit far from the deliveries of FighterZ and Kakarot, even if it is true that, being such different styles, it still makes sense.
As for the sound section, there is nothing to complain about, we have the voices in Japanese; an addition that most fans of the franchise still love. Undoubtedly, many of us prefer to play these deliveries in their original language and not with the dubbing. It is clear that we appreciate it much more and that it manages to transport us directly to the heart of the game. In addition to this, the sounds of attacks, music or the beats of your own heart when the villain is near , manage to live up to expectations.
gameplay
Let’s go to the playable section, as I told you at the beginning, we are in a game where one of the players will be the bad guy and the others will have to flee. Or failing that… Finish it with the different weapons on the map and of course, with the transformation spheres. What does it mean? Well, these spheres give us a percentage of power, which we can use when we reach a minimum. There are three types of levels where each will lead us to a different transformation, you decide who you want to become. You have options like Goku, Vegeta, Krillin and a few others. Each with their ultimate attacks and passive abilities that will make your target a bit easier.
Of course, as expected in this style, there is only one game mode available. Yes, we have a single player prologue that works on a tutorial basis to learn the mechanics and how it works so you can evade the bad guys. On top of that, the game is online only and always for the same purpose. Villain or civil, the role you play will be automatic, although admittedly you can choose a preference, I never got what I asked for. In fact, I still couldn’t play as the villain although I still put it as my main role. An analysis without having tested all the mechanics? Yes, and then I’ll tell you why.
In Dragon Ball: The Breakers, you’ll have three cards, and just like with role choice, it seems to be a bit broken. Since, even if I say I want to play on a particular map, it will put me on the same map over and over again. I don’t know if it’s been fixed now or if it will be soon with an update, but at the moment this section leaves a lot to be desired. And let’s get to the main reason why I’m bringing this analysis to you despite not being able to play as one of the three existing villains, Buu, Cell, or Frieza. The matchmaking
In addition to not being able to play the role or map you decide on preference, searching for games takes a long time to complete. How many? Well, in all the ones I’ve played, the average has been around 6 minutes to start playing. Something that at this stage of the generation is totally unthinkable. I understand that this could happen in the early days of the game, where the servers aren’t at 100%, but for it to continue to happen a week later is unlikely to say the least. Yes, there may be a game that takes a minute or two, but at least in my case it wasn’t the usual pattern. So Dragon Ball: The Breakers still has a long way to go.
duration
We are facing an online-only delivery, with only a prologue for a player that works on a tutorial basis. Although I always say that this type of game has a practically unlimited duration, in this one I contradict myself a little. If they don’t fix the search for matches, maybe it means losing players. Because yes, it’s a real ordeal to wait five minutes – or even more – on the clock to be able to play a single match. Although it remains subjective because if someone fell in love with this episode, they will spend many hours in it, because the game is well planned and if you like this style, it is very funny.
conclusion
Dragon Ball: The Breakers is coming to our consoles to bring the Dead by Daylight theme to Akira Toriyama’s universe. This game succeeds, but against him has time to matchmaking, sometimes exceeding seven minutes is too excessive. In addition, we add that I could not play as a villain despite his choice as the first option and that I could not enjoy other cards despite their choice in the waiting room.
All this makes the game very green, still with bugs that should not be present in this generation of video games. Although it’s a fun episode that can live up to most fans’ expectations, Dragon Ball: The Breakers still has room for improvement. If the developer manages to bring it to the place it deserves, we could be faced with a delivery with a lot of potential.

DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS is an asymmetrical online action game in which a team of seven ordinary citizens must survive the aggressor (a DRAGON BALL rival, such as Cell, Frieza or Buu), who will hunt them down and evolve into a unstoppable force. Getting away isn’t that easy! Escape as a team… or escape alone! Collaborate with other players while you have the time, but the raider or the decisions made by the other survivors might force you to continue on your own. How are you going to play?
Although it’s a fun episode that can live up to most fans’ expectations, Dragon Ball: The Breakers still has room for improvement.
The best
- fun game mode
- Interesting mechanics and objects for good gameplay
- Transformations and attacks of our favorite characters
Worse
- Little variety of locations
- I couldn’t test the villains despite choosing them as the main option
- Matchmaking time is too long
