Dan DiDio, an associate publisher of DC Comics who is one of the most influential industry producers in the last decade, has left the company. DC confirmed the news via Polygon on Friday afternoon, but could not provide further details after the sudden departure.
DiDio joined DC Comics in January 2002, as vice president of editorials and writer Superboy. A key figure in the rise of DC in the mid-2000s, he and comedian Jim Lee eventually became clothing publishers in 2010. A year later, DC Comics set itself up for a sequel that would define the company for a new year: The New 52, the first fully-fledged company since 1986.
The New 52 had a lively debate, but its results – in news and in the market – far outweighed the test of time. DiDio was also at the joint press conference of the 2016 rebirth program, which serves as a focal point for many of its ongoing demolitions.
DiDio has also been a source of presence at meetings, often hosting DC Co-Publisher panels containing almost all Q&As with followers.
