I went to Capcom last week and spent a little time at the beginning of Resident Evil 4 Remake. In the short time I’ve been playing the game, it’s expected to be March 23next year, seems to have changed a lot…for the better.
I’ll start by saying that this is still inherent Resident Evil 4Obviously, I can’t speak for the rest of the game, but as far as Leon’s first rendezvous with the tribe of Los Ganados goes, Capcom – so far – has settled on a remake.
When it comes to Resident Evil Remake, we expect improved graphics, evolved combat, and fewer stutters. Luckily, my taste in REmake 4 combat has me craving more, and here’s why.
First, the days of standing still and shooting are over. It was the first thing I looked for when I got the weapon, you bet it, and I was relieved. This was to be expected, however, what I didn’t expect was how powerful and fun it is to use Leon’s knife now.
In the original Resident Evil 4 game, you could use Leon’s knife to chop through crates of loot, or attack and stun enemies if necessary. That said, I ignored the knives in the original in favor of guns, because this is Resident Evil and I love shooting.
In Resident Evil 4 Remake, however, it’s more fun to use Leon’s melee weapons. It took me a minute to master, but once I did it was more of a bloody feast. Now, Leon’s knife is strapped to some sort of stamina bar, so you have to use it with care, instead of going to Michael Myers in Los Canados.
On top of that, the weapon is also associated with a specific environment terminator, as long as you weaken the enemy enough; simply approach, attack, and be prepared to possibly cringe at the bloody terminator, or, if you’re me and you usually Not good at the game, as long as you clock a bit too late for the Terminator, be prepared to cringe at the equally violent incoming attack. Better yet, if you have the guts, you can use this knife against that monstrous chainsaw people.
For the stealth lovers out there, you’re definitely in for a treat. While crouching – yes, you can now crouch at any time – you can approach specific enemies without being detected. When close enough, you can tap your melee button and get a creepy stealth kill. Granted, Far Cry 6 feels funny at times, but it’s still fun.
Capcom also took into account that this makes Leon’s melee weapons quite powerful, and also introduced a degradation system for the weapons. After a limited number of uses, the player will have to repair the knife, but how will the player do it? Well, even though I didn’t get to meet the unreliable character mysefl, the Resident Evil showcase gave us a glimpse of the businessman who looks like he’ll support our knife repairs.
What do you think of Leon’s upgraded gear?
