In early September, streamer Antoine Daniel couldn’t be prouder to announce that he will be presenting and hosting the World Championships on his Twitch channel Geoguessr, a game available in a web browser that has continued to grow in popularity thanks to its concept, which is as playful as it is original. Transported randomly to a place on the globe, you must be able to locate it as accurately as possible on a map by walking around, in the area and within a given time, as if you were using Google’s “Street View” function. Over the years, players have improved to an impressive level, which gave rise to the idea of holding an international competition, with a very nice cash prize of 25,000 dollars at stake, of course!
The crème de la crème was rounded up for this event, which took place on Saturday, October 22nd on Antoine Daniel’s Twitch channel: 30 teams of three or four players (20 chosen based on their competitive profile and 10 more chosen at random) competed against each other — consisting of group stage and then a final draw of sixteen teams — from the most tense and wild, through different game modes, to increasingly complex rules. Live from Paris and accompanied by other experienced commentators such as MisterMV or Étoiles, the organizers of the GeoGuessr Competitive League presented the show, but it was actually the skills of the contestants that amazed the viewers present on Twitch!
A first edition with phenomenal success
Antoine Daniel had arranged to meet his community and GeoGuessr on D-Day an anthology live of more than fourteen hours to choose the most successful team that can determine its location in record time. Speaking of records, this very first edition clearly represents one as it has managed to garner a very impressive number of viewers given the game in question, because an average of 35,000 people sat in front of their screens : The competition can even boast of having achieved a peak of almost 45,000 spectators. And even, the numbers don’t stop there and only underscore the power of this opening GeoGuessr Team World Cup.

The event almost took off 154,000 unique viewers which made it possible to explode the ratings of Antoine Daniel’s channel, since the cumulative number of live hours (thanks to all viewers) is estimated at approximately 31.6 million hours. However, the streamer isn’t the biggest winner of this event: In reality, they are the members of the Speed Plonkers team (consisting of German player Kodiak, Swedish player Maccem and French player Blinky) when they beat A Community Team 3-0, they didn’t give up a chance to take the lead ! All this is looking very good for organizing a second edition in the next few months, at least we hope so!
