Fans of Dark Souls on PC must stay strong as online features that have been offline for a long time will not be returning. At least there is the all-clear regarding Dark Souls II.
From Software has confirmed that the online services of the Prepare to Die Edition of the first Dark Souls will not return and will remain offline indefinitely. There has been a lack of clarity in this regard for months, which has now been resolved.
About nine months ago, the Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, Dark Souls II, and Dark Souls III PvP servers had to be taken offline after a serious security vulnerability was discovered. Since then, the development studio has reworked and initially brought back Dark Souls III; as far as the other two titles were concerned, a long wait began at first.
After all, Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin is now back online and has returned to that extent. However, this is only the DX11 version of the game; the original DX9 base game will only get the online functionalities back “at a later date”.
The first Dark Souls will no longer happen on the PC. The Prepare to Die Edition was the first adaptation of the series on this platform and was released in 2012. “We have determined that we will not be able to continue to support the online services of the PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition released in 2012. We apologize for the long wait and ask for your understanding in this matter”, says the developer.
According to another tweet, work is being done on the comeback of Dark Souls Remastered’s online services on the PC, but there is no date for this yet.
