CD Projekt Red revealed the development of a ‘remake’ of the first game in the franchise The Witcher , original from 2007. The title, formerly known as ‘Project Canis Majoris’, is in its early stages and is in charge of the Fool’s Theory studio, with creative supervision of CD Projekt. The team uses Unreal Engine 5, the same tool in which a new trilogy unfolds.

Fool’s Theory was formed in 2015 by game developers from The Witcher, so the ‘remake’ is in good hands. Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt Red, says that at Fool’s Theory they know the source material very well and know how to make amazing and ambitious games.

«The Witcher it’s where it all started for us, for CD Projekt Red. It was the first game we made and it was a great moment. Coming back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of players feels just as big, if not bigger.”

Taking into account that The Witcher 3 was the game that most promoted the popularity of the IP, even reaching adaptations in series para Netflix, the first game has a chance to improve. It is not the strongest of its exponents but a ‘remake’ can learn from its third installment, in view of the future new trilogy that awaits it.
