With Microsoft’s purchase of Bethesda, a distant hope seemed to be revived: that Obsidian could finally develop a successor to the fan favorite Fallout: New Vegas. According to a well-known insider, talks on this topic are said to have taken place at Microsoft:

Fallout: The odds for New Vegas 2 have never been better
So far, these rumors have not been confirmed, but fans of New Vegas can still be happy. Because currently a full-fledged remake of the Fallout game is being created, which is not developed by Obsidian but by enthusiastic fans. Now the project is showing its progress. As usual with such projects, there is no release date yet, we will probably have to be patient a little longer.
This is what the remake looks like
In a long Twitter-Thread the developers present numerous new images and information about the remake, which is being created in the Fallout 4 engine. For example, they show several landscape shots, some of which fans of the series will probably recognize quickly:
According to the developers, the map of the remake should not correspond 1:1 to the original, since one also wants to allow creative freedom in individual places. The remake is now about 25 percent larger than the original. If you would like to admire the remake in moving pictures, you can also watch the entire beginning of the game:

guns and robots
However, landscape shots are by no means the only thing the developers show about their project. There are also new images showing a weapon and robot in the classic, retro-futuristic style of Fallout:

Quests are that complicated
There are also interesting things to learn from the developers about the keyword quests. A look at the dialogue options of an important NPC, the yes-man just mentioned, shows how complicated their implementation is in New Vegas, which is known for its freedom of choice:

Adding to the complexity of creating quests are features like skill checks in dialogue that weren’t present in Fallout 4. That’s why the developers are looking for the most volunteers in this area. Those interested can apply to work here.
New HUD and more
And there’s more to see! For example, the user interface has been modernized for the remake, but the original style has been retained. There are also pictures of several houses that we can buy and use as apartments:
Those who love the dark and sometimes morbid humor of the Fallout games can also take a look at the animated perk symbols. Here we see about the ability Shotgun Surgeon
which allows you to deal more damage with shotguns, as well as another perk:

More big fallout projects
The New Vegas remake is far from the only fan project in the Fallout community. For example, another modder team is working on Fallout: Miami, which is supposed to serve as unofficial DLC for Fallout 4 and only recently released a new video. And then there’s the massive Fallout: London, which is set to become its very own game in the Fallout 4 engine:
