Infinity Ward excitedly warns Modern Warfare 2 Players eager to jump into multiplayer early, changing their console area to access the game before the game actually goes live, will cause “connection issues”.
Best of all, developers can block players from full access to the game until it’s officially released in their region.
The warning came in the studio’s official tweet, Post to twitter a few hours ago.
Changing the zone of a console in order to play a game a few hours in advance is an old trick that many players should already be familiar with. New Zealand is usually the most popular choice there as it’s the first region to start the day, earning the “ol” New Zealand trick name in the community.
Of course, this only applies to rolling-release games, which is true in the case of Modern Warfare 2, at least on consoles. To recap, here is the boot time for the PC and the boot time for the console.
It’s unclear if using a VPN would change the results here, but it’s usually not worth the risk of just a few hours of early access. Still, developers rarely enforce these rules, so it will be interesting to see if players are actually locked out this time around.
