Apple has updated the iPad Pro, its Tablet high-end for professional users. Essentially, it’s the same tablet that launched in 2021, but it does come with a few new features that prove essential.
Let’s see how the iPad Pro 2022 with the previous model iPad Pro 2021. With the purchase of one of them, you will have in your hands a valuable and powerful work tool. However, these are the differences between them, including the price.
iPad Pro M2: Design
Apple hasn’t changed anything when it comes to the design and build of the iPad Pro with the 2022 update. The company still offers two different screen sizes of 11-inch and 12.9-inch.
The 2022 and 2021 iPad Pros have the exact same dimensions, bezels, buttons, speakers, and microphone, as well as the same silver and space gray color options.
Like the previous model, the iPadPro it does not support Touch ID on the power button, unlike other iPad models. Instead, it’s the only iPad that supports Face ID for screen unlocking.

iPad Pro M2: performance and features
As with the design, many features between the 2021 and 2022 iPad Pros are the same, but with a few important new features coming to the new model that may decide your purchase.
Processor
The biggest update to the new iPad Pro is the chip: the 2022 model has an M2 processor, which replaces the M1 that was used in the 2021 model. It’s the first Tablet by having an M2 chip (iPad Air still has an M1) and one of two Macs (MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro).
The M2 has a powerful chip, with eight processor cores divided into four performance cores and four efficiency cores. In our tests, the M2 is about 15% faster than the M1.
The iPad Pro’s M2 chip also has 10 GPU cores, an increase from the M1’s 8 GPU cores. In benchmarks, the M2 has a 30% better graphics performance boost than the M1.
The M2 also has an improved media engine that includes ProRes video acceleration, and Apple claims the M2 can transcode ProRes video three times faster than the M1.
Apple also claims that the M2’s 16-core neural engine is 40% faster and the 100 Gbps of unified memory bandwidth provides a 50% boost.
The iPad Pro memory configuration has not changed. On models with 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage, you get 8GB of Unified Memory, while iPad Pros with 1TB and 2TB of storage get 16GB of RAM.

This is the main change that users will notice at first glance between the old and the new iPad Pro. Although both models are compatible with the apple pencil The second generation, the 2022 model has a new feature that Apple calls Hover.
This is an exciting new development and probably the main reason people will upgrade. And it is that the iPad Pro 2022 can detect the pencil at a distance of up to 12 mm from the screen, allowing users to preview a mark for greater precision before applying it.
You can also make adjustments, such as resizing a place before placing it, and text fields expand when scrolling. And it works as a UI pointer, so you don’t need to touch the screen to expand tabs and links.
Hover won’t be available on older iPads, so if you’re using this feature and relying on it, you’ll have to stick with the newer M2 and iPad Pro models.
connectivity
iPad Pro continues to use USB-C connection (Thunderbolt 4 compatible) to connect a charger, hard drive or other accessories. The 2022 iPad Pro also features Bluetooth 5.3, which is an update to Bluetooth 5.0 from the 2021 model.
And the iPad Pro still has optional 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave) connectivity. As for Wi-Fi, the iPad Pro 2022 supports Wi-Fi 6E, allowing the Tablet take advantage of the 1200 MHz spectrum. You will need a router Wi-Fi 6R for best performance.
Filter
The screens of the iPad Pro 2021 and 2022 are identical. That means the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has a Liquid Retina XDR display with mini-LED technology, while the 11-inch iPad Pro has a Liquid Retina LED display.
Both have ProMotion, but the 12.9-inch model is superior with a peak brightness of 1,600 nits when viewing HDR content, more dimming zones for better brightness control, as well as a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.
cameras
Like the display, Apple hasn’t changed the camera on the 2022 iPad Pro. The rear camera has dual cameras, a 12 MP wide camera combined with a 10 MP ultra-wide camera that has 2X optical zoom, 5X digital zoom and recording. ProRes video up to 4K at 30 fps.
In the case of the 128 GB iPad Pro, it is possible to record ProRes video in 1080p at 30 fps. The front camera is a 12 MP ultra-wide unit that can use Center Stage during FaceTime video calls.
Storage
The storage options for the 2022 iPad Pro are the same as the 2021 model: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. If you want to record 4K video in ProRes format, you need to get a model with at least 256 GB of storage.
The 128GB model records ProRes 1080p video at 30fps and does not support ProRes 4K recording as it would fill your iPad’s memory in no time. So if you usually work on video projects, this is a factor to consider.
Prices
Although in some countries the price of new iPad Pro has been maintained, as has been the case in the United States or Mexico, in the specific case of Europe the price has increased compared to the previous model. Here is the recommended price list:
