Many GameStar readers would flip a coin to Henry Cavill as Geralt. With Liam Hemsworth, however, the reaction is more restrained.
In our survey, we wanted to know from you how you react to Henry Cavill’s end as Geralt of Rivia after the end of the third season. Do you keep looking, do you leave it alone or does it depend on certain factors?
Over 4,600 readers took part and created an atmosphere that clearly favors Henry Cavill as Geralt. So much so that for the majority the series has probably ended after Season 3. Others prefer to wait and see what Liam Hemsworth has to offer before passing judgment.
The thing moves fan hearts, that’s out of the question. A petition has even been launched to bring the popular actor back:
The Witcher
Tens of thousands of fans are demanding his return
Here’s how GameStar readers vote

That’s what readers say about the Cavill case
In the comments there is a clearer picture of where the reasons for one or the other decision lie. For many readers, the presumed reason why Cavill is distancing himself from The Witcher also plays a major role.
Here’s how Grundelmonster gets to the point in the most followed comment:
It depends above all on whether the script doesn’t deviate even further from the book template.
It’s important that Liam Hemsworth does well in the role, but please don’t reinvent the story.

Drunkenpotato takes the same line, seeing the boycott as an opportunity to express one’s own dissatisfaction with narrative deviations from the original:
There’s plenty of info from Henry that the writers don’t give a shit about the templates and would rather have their own big-name thing. If Henry leaves, I’ll just stop supporting him.

There is also criticism away from the main actor debate. StoneyWoney is fundamentally dissatisfied with the whole series:
Probably not. But that’s not up to Henry Cavill. Thought he was good in his role, but the series itself was so bad and trashy that I had to stop at some point in season 2.

Cinergie wants to remain loyal to The Witcher on Netflix, also because there is more to it than just starring Henry Cavill.
I’ll keep looking for sure. Sure, Cavill played Geralt really believably and charismatic – he didn’t have many advance praise. But the series does not only live from Cavill/Geralt but is more complex. While she doesn’t quite live up to the novels, she tells her own Witcher story and I think Hemsworth is very capable of being a good Geralt too.

The Witcher 3 – The game is even better in the new first-person view
Our poll clearly shows how devastating the loss of leading role Henry Cavill is for our Witcher fans. But not everyone rules out the possibility of having fun with Liam Hemsworth. Other readers express their displeasure that the writing of The Witcher on Netflix deviates too much from the template.
It will be exciting to see if The Witcher can maintain its traction and strong viewership on Netflix after the end of the popular leading man.
