Old school RPG fans can rejoice, because they will still be working on the long-awaited Baldur's Gate III in 2020. The new series part of Larian Studios announced shortly before E3 2019 will experience a release later in the year – but with a catch.
As Hasbro confirmed to investors at Toy Fair 2020, the developers will initially only publish an early access version of the title. This should be available on Steam later in 2020, but will not yet represent the full game. Instead, the makers of Divinity: Original Sin will continue to work diligently on the game after the early access release, expand and optimize it until the full version 1.0 is finally reached with the final release.
It has been 20 years since the release of the award-winning Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and fans had to wait a long time for a sequel to be announced. Gameplay in the form of a presentation or a trailer will now be shown for the first time at PAX East 2020 on February 27th.
Habsro also confirmed at the event that there are currently seven titles in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. In addition to Baldur's Gate III, this also includes a reboot of the action role-playing game Dark Alliance, published in 2001. A new D&D game is scheduled to appear each year by 2025.
