In 2018, The first issue of a magazine entitled A Profound Waste of Time was published. Blending heartfelt essays about video games with beautiful art was great, and good enough five years later a second edition was put together that was just as good. now It’s time for issue #3.

Some of the highlights of This latest edition contains:

– Journalist and author Simon Parkin travels to Tokyo, Japan to speak with him Fumito Ueda (Shadow of the Colossus, ico, The Last Guardian) that explore the themes and philosophies behind his iconic games and work practices.

-Grace Curtis examines the history of early web games with a focus on nitroman independent British games studio that started developing online browser games.

-Rodney Greenblat (Rappa the rapper) is interviewed by Kyle Bosman about his approach to his fine arts and character design, and how he hopes his work brings joy to others.

– Tim Schaefer (psychonauts, Grim fandango) talks along Ben Bertoli about how to manage your perspectives and take care of your sanity when creating and working on video games.

– Journalist and author Matt Leone Chronicle of the early history of street fighter and the birth of combo analysis of fighting games in Japan.

While the features were fantastic (and in this case look fantastic), one of the magazine’s big selling points was its production. TThe art jumps off the page, and for this edition in particular the fancier edition of the Last Guardian-thematic cover goes everything off:

Issue 3 Special Edition includes a different color palette and a special thermochromatic paint layer, allowing you to banish the darkness and reveal Trico underneath just by touching the cover with your hands. Touch and tactility is such a prominent concept in Ueda and his team’s games that it felt appropriate to refer to it on the cover with this unique production process
