If you’re familiar with Hideo Kojima’s work, you might not be surprised to hear that he’s been very interested in actually making a movie lately.
According to VGC, Kojima recently spoke at the Anan Awards in Japan (via Famitsu) for being one of the top honors in the cultural category death strandingAt the event, he noted that while his career has been entirely devoted to gaming, “all areas are connected through digital works, so I want to expand beyond gaming to areas like film and music.”
Music isn’t a terribly surprising thing either, as it has been an important aspect of all of his work, including the most recent Death Stranding. But Kojima loves movies in particular, and this is probably the easiest trivia you can give about a game developer. His English-language Twitter jokingly says “70% of my body is made of movies,” and you can easily say that about his games, too, since they’re all cinematic length.
his studio Kojima Manufacturing Co., Ltd. A new media division was actually launched last year with plans to focus on film, TV and music, and the new division, located in sunny Los Angeles, plans to work with “creative and talented professionals in TV, music and film, as well as more familiar The game industry.” It’s unclear whether Kojima himself intends to expand his horizons through the kind of medium he produces, but these recent comments do make him seem that way.
As far as Kojima’s next steps are concerned, there are two possibilities. One is a sequel to Death Stranding, which is definitely happening but has yet to be announced (thanks to Norman Reedus). The other is the rumored and recently leaked Overdose, and apparently there’s a lot of mystery surrounding it since it hasn’t been announced yet. Although given how close he is to Geoff Keighley, we’ll probably see some sort of announcement at The Game Awards, right?
