The Dark Souls series servers on PC were taken offline in January to ensure that a security breach in the series would not affect Elden Ring.
Servers have gone offline due to an apparent security breach, which could allow hackers to take over someone else’s computer via remote code execution. Because Elden Ring uses the same networking code, it faces the same vulnerabilities.

Dark Souls 3 servers restarted in August, and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of Original Sin came back online in October. Unfortunately, online services for the 2012 PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die will not be restored “due to system aging”.
