If there is a game full of curiosities, that is Skyrim. The Bethesda Medieval Fantasy It has a planet made of garbage at the top of its sky, although we have also been able to learn the mystery behind the foxes that lead us to treasures.
The developers of the title have always been very open to telling us curious stories and this time it’s time to talk about the Dark Brotherhood. This is one of the mission lines most remembered by players and in which the design director was involved Emil Pagliarulo
At a given moment, it is necessary that we get into the coffin where the body of Mother Night is and a somewhat gloomy scene where everything turns dark. However, everything has a trick, although before you can take a look at the sequence in question.
Nothing strange, right? Well, the truth is that yes, since the coffin door is never really closed and it is all about a sound effect to simulate that we are staying next to the corpse. This is how Pagliarulo himself explains it:
“In the Dark Brotherhood, there comes a point where you have to hide in the Night Mother’s coffin. You walk in, the door slams shut behind you and everything goes black. And then you see the illuminated body of the Night Mother ahead. You. It’s just… it was all fake.
It was quite late in development and the animators were heavily criticized so an animation solution wasn’t really viable. I knew it was my responsibility. But the inside of the coffin was not working well with the player collision. So I force the player into first person, lock the controls, turn off the lights… and play the sound of the coffin closing behind you. But really, you’re just standing in the room, right in front of the Night Mother. You are not locked in the coffin in any way.”
As you see, one of many tricks that Skyrim hides among its codes and that it is practically impossible for us to notice. Through these types of details it is clear that the work done on a large budget project can count on very simple solutions.
