Phil Spencer spoke again about Xbox Game Pass, in this case the statements of the Xbox boss had nothing to do with a new version in the company’s subscription service but with the game sales model carried out by the company. In A meeting With The Verge, Spencer indicated that Xbox would not stop selling games that are in the service’s catalog.
According to Spencer, Xbox Game Pass presents an attractive business model for certain games, giving players the ability to diversify their options when it comes to enjoying a title. However, getting gamers to buy the games is still a core part of the business
Phil Spencer continues to bet on buying games
In his statements, Spencer stresses the importance of game purchases in Xbox’s overall scheme:
“We don’t have this vision that everyone gives us $15 a month. We believe that subscription is an attractive business model for certain types of games and for certain types of customers. I see it as a way to diversify how people expand their catalog of games or how creators reach the consumers they want with the content they create. As far as I am concerned, it will always be part of the business (…)”.
The idea of the executive is always to give the players the opportunity to decide how and what to play.
“That’s why you don’t see us putting exclusive games only on the service or trying to prevent people from buying games. We like people being able to buy their games, that’s fantastic. We also want people subscribe, our idea is to get more people to play more games and make it easier for every gamer who wants to enjoy a title.
The truth is that Xbox Game Pass continues to grow and even according to Sony, the service already has more than 29 million subscribers.
