Climate change is clearly happening in both the real world and the stories we see in video games. As part of The Knight Witch’s plot, the mundane world was hopelessly distorted and the creatures were forced to carve out a new underground society for themselves. The greatest warriors are the flying knights who, according to stories, have won wars without even needing an army.

The game’s protagonist is Rayne, a cheerful young woman who was once a knight in shining armor but finds herself at the center of events when things go wrong and one by one the brave knights disappear. Piece by piece, Rayne must assemble the traits that will allow the villain to reap his rewards.

The story is well written despite its generic premise. There are a few twists and turns and there is some depth to the characters. Even if you start to guess the process relatively quickly after the first cave, the story is captivating and keeps you in suspense.

Rayne can fly from the beginning of the adventure that brings an interesting freshness to the well-known and safe idea of Metroidvania. The slippery spray is fun and elegantly eliminates the genre’s usual impediments to movement. Since flying would otherwise be too easy, the action focuses on exploration and combat style. bullet hell. From the start, the screen quickly fills with colorful projectiles that you must dodge in order to survive.

In addition to flying, other combat ideas were also experimented with. Rayne’s projectiles are remote controlled, but can also be aimed when needed, allowing the bullets to do more damage as well. In addition, the magician’s bag contains magic cards that, depending on the situation, increase the basic attack, start a powerful special attack or alternatively generate shields. At this point, The Knight Witch also includes a deck building game in its deck. Actually the Spells are included as cards, which can be played eight by eight. In the style of a proper deck building game, three spells are offered at a time, after which the empty slots are filled with the next spells in the queue.

In fact, the mix works surprisingly well and is entertaining. Since you don’t need to aim your basic ammo in sticky situations, you can focus on dodging and using your magic at the right time. This is a good thing as the difficulty will be challenging from start to finish. Even the very first boss monster in the first square (focused on learning the game) will bring the unsuspecting player to their knees. As the game progresses, things don’t get any easier and the matchups are downright difficult at points. As if that wasn’t enough, there are even more difficult challenge rooms hidden within the dungeons to test your mastery of the game.

Once you get comfortable with the level of difficulty, a surprisingly fun and addictive adventure unfolds in the background. The art and music in the game are beautiful, there are many original ideas and the dungeons are well designed. However, I don’t dare to assure the title of long life, since I reached the end of the story after about seven hours of playing and carefully going through the maps, which is a little below what we are used to in this type of games.

The Knight Witch is a recommended experience if you want something different within the genre and aren’t afraid of the difficulty. Or if that’s the case, at least the cheat codes available online allow you to fully enjoy the story and exploration, and the adjusted price of the digital version makes them even more attractive.
