Although The Walking Dead is now over, AMC’s Walking Dead universe is just beginning. One of the most anticipated spin-off series follows Daryl and his next adventures away from his familiar surroundings and family.
But what happens to the other survivors, especially Judith, for whom Daryl became something of a surrogate father after Rick’s disappearance? There are a few unanswered questions that will hopefully be addressed in the future of the franchise.
Where does Daryl’s journey take him next?
In the finale of The Walking Dead, it was confirmed that Daryl is leaving to uncover the origin of the zombie apocalypse. His journey will thus lead to France. Because there, as we know since “The Walking Dead: World Beyond”, is the laboratory where the first walkers were created.
A long journey, on which Daryl probably doesn’t expect to return to his friends and Judith so quickly. It’s fitting, though, that he’s the one who goes on an important solo mission and thus gets his own spin-off. After all, since Season 1, Daryl has been the most skilled fighter and survivor, and the one who does best on his own.
What does Daryl’s departure mean for Judith?
After Michonne left Judith to look for Rick, Daryl also says goodbye to little Grimes. A perennial theme of parents and parent figures abandoning their children. Although Judith can now slowly take care of herself, it is still tragic that after her father she now has to let go of two other important people who are important to her.
Of course, this is everyday life in the brutal world of “The Walking Dead”. However, Daryl’s reasons for choosing to find out more about the zombie plague in lands far away rather than help raise and protect his best friend’s daughter remain unclear.
In the season finale of “The Walking Dead” there probably wasn’t enough time and space for it. More could be said at the start of Daryl’s own series, which isn’t expected until mid-2023. Hopefully, because while Daryl isn’t the most talkative of characters, family, loyalty and protecting his loved ones come first for him.
Meanwhile, Judith will have Maggie, Carol, and a few other survivors as caregivers – although Maggie will also be getting her own Manhattan spin-off, Negan, as has been confirmed.
The most important people for Judith are therefore Rosita’s son Coco and her half-brother Rick Grimes Jr. But it is certainly not easy for Judith to lose other people after the death of her older brother Carl and the departure of her father.
No doubt she will soon become a strong leader herself and who knows, we may also see a Judith spin-off series of her own in the future, which would likely feature a possible reunion with her father, Michonne and Daryl.
