Xbox Series X: Backward Compatibility Greater Than Thought

Compatibility, Greater, series, Thought, Xbox

Microsoft already presented the Xbox Series X with its design somewhat surprisingly at the The Game Awards 2019. Afterwards, there was some more information about the next-gen console, including backward compatibility. This is even more far-reaching than initially thought.

One of the biggest features of Xbox One compared to the competition is certainly the backward compatibility of Microsoft's current home console. In the run-up to the official announcement of the Xbox Series X, the Redmond company had consequently emphasized that they would continue to use the feature with the next-gen console and continue to make games from earlier console generations playable on the new platform. However, downward compatibility is now even more extensive than previously thought.

Microsoft has now confirmed that it will definitely support all four generations of the Xbox. This was already to be expected, so that you can play games from the original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One and just the Xbox Series X all on the new console. Backward compatibility is not limited to the ability to play previous tracks.

Now it is clear that this will also extend to "all of your Xbox One gaming accessories", so that you can use all devices that worked with Xbox One with Xbox Series X in the future. So you don't have to throw them in the bin.

Furthermore: All existing subscriptions and services of Xbox One should also be able to continue and be used on Xbox Series X in the future. And: You want to ensure the transition between the generations as pleasant and seamless as possible for the players. Means: Starting with Halo Infinite next year, at least all first-party games that are available through Xbox One and Xbox Series X will enable cross-achievements and cross-savegames between the devices.
