Sound Recorder is one of those apps that come pre-installed on the mobile that we usually don’t pay much attention to; but with the latest Android novelties, it will become an app to consider.

Most people who really need a recorder install a professional or dedicated app, but the new feature implemented by Google may make this unnecessary.

New recorder on Android

The new version of the Recorder app, number 4.2, already reaches all users through the Play Store; although only those who have a recent Pixel mobile will be able to use the great novelty that it incorporates: voice detection.

For some time the recorder has been able to transcribe the audio it records, so in addition to a sound file we also get a text file with everything said, using voice recognition technology that is also used in Google Assistant, for example.

Well, now the recorder is able to identify the different people participating in a conversation and assign them different spaces in the transcript. In other words, you will know at all times who was talking and who said what.

This can be particularly important for interviews, for example, since the application will show the speakers separately; Or it may just be that we want to record an important conversation and there is a record of who said what.

It should be noted that the application is not able to know who is the person speaking at any time; it only differentiates voices that sound by their pitch, so it doesn’t know which is which. In addition, the data of these voices is deleted as soon as the transcription is finished, for greater confidentiality. In the app, these people will only appear as numbers, although we can change this and assign names and colors to each person speaking for convenience.

According 9to5Google, the feature was tested on Google Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro without any issues. The new Recorder app is coming via the Play Store, but it’s already available for download on sites like APKMirror.
