The license is bad, how to save it? We have a lead

Bad, lead, license, Save

Battlefield is in bad shape, but after the bitter failure of Battlefield 2042, is the license really dead or can it still be saved? What does EA intend to do with its franchise and how can the license come out of it? We have a few clues.

Battlefield 2042 is a failure. That’s fact. The game failed to meet EA’s goals or find its audience. While not wanting to throw everything away, the game is far too different from the rest of the saga and made game design choices that fans of the series clearly didn’t like. When leaving the disappointment is great.

Battlefield 2042, the cold shower

So great that players quickly abandoned the game in favor of Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V, which were released years earlier. On Steam, this is unheard of for a game in the series. The number of players literally collapsed overnight without ever being able to really recover, although today we see a new breakthrough after the launch of Season 3 and the announcement of a whole bunch of promising new features.

But despite this new impetus, the license is in turmoil, one knee on the ground. The studios working on 2042, led by DICE, are doing their utmost to straighten the bar and save the tub. One thing is certain, battlefield lost along the way because they wanted to change the spirit of the license too much and there is nothing left but to make an inevitable return to basics. Something the developers understood and now want to apply for Battlefield 2042but not only.

All is not lost

While his last post regarding the next updates from Battlefield 2042, DICE also mentioned the future of the entire series. The developers say they are paying attention and listening to the community to gradually build THE ultimate battlefield and guarantee the license a bright future.

Battlefield 2042 is preparing the future of a franchise we’re all about. We will continue to listen, learn from you, and update you on the work of DICE, Industrial Toys, Ripple Effect Studios, and Ridgeline Studios for all current and future Battlefield experiences.

This is not surprising news as it has already been said Battlefield 2042 should redraw the contours of the license and serve as a basis for future episodes. And that still seems to be the case, although the developers have to start almost from scratch and even look back to the origins of the saga.

EA still sees big things for its license and even teased a possible expanded universe. We were told about a whole range of experiences back then, about a world where there would be narrative Battlefield games and so on. According to the latest rumors, a good number of developers are already working on the after Battlefield 2042.
While the game isn’t dead and buried just yet, EA wants to move on pretty quickly by experimenting a little more with 2042 while also using valuable community feedback to cook up the ultimate game fans have been waiting for.

For now we know absolutely nothing about the ongoing projects and all eyes are still on 2042 trying to somehow stay afloat.
Then a name comes to mind: Bad society.

It’s in the old jars…

A Bad Company 3 to restore the image?

What if the license came back with great fanfare with Bad Company 3? It’s a track you can’t think of.
EA and DICE have doubts, think it’s necessary to back down to save the franchise, and Bad Company 2, released in 2010, is undoubtedly one of the most popular games in the series. And then a new Bad Company would also be the ideal opportunity to highlight strong characters like back then with strong characters, and could thereby quench EA’s thirst for storytelling, which obviously doesn’t want to be limited to the confines of the multiplayer core Battlefield experience.
and bad company 3 could therefore all agree and there is no doubt that the issue had to be addressed internally. We have the right to dream, right?

No matter which path EA takes, no matter what the developers come up with, what is certain is that the next Battlefield game will have to work hard to sign a real comeback of the license.

And you? What are your hopes for the franchise?
