What a strange year we are about to leave behind. Between the scarcity of consoles, especially if we talk about the PS5, and the few big releases that there have been compared to other years, the truth is that 2022 has been somewhat forgettable. But hey, even so there have been games that we really liked, some of them really big and some of them smaller but surprising. The thing is that we bring you back our own list of the best games of the year.
It is never easy to make a list that represents one hundred percent the tastes of the six people who make up the editorial team of iGamesNews, but we have come together again Sergio Cejas, Rubén Márquez, Alberto Martín, Francisco Muñoz (Frankie MB), Juan Sanmartín and me to try.
We like the result. Each one of us would have uploaded or downloaded this or that game, even titles that some editor wanted to add with all his strength have been left out, but in the end the list of our best video games of 2022 it had to be, as always, a kind of Frankenstein monster that I grabbed from here and there depending on our preferences as a team.
Without more to add, except that the comments section is at your entire disposal to tell us how bad the list is, how much we made a mistake or just the opposite, here we go:
20. Splatoon 3
Fun and pure competitive spirit with extra color. Splatoon 3 painted an amazing summer on Switch in blue and yellow, renewing the playable formula of previous installments, adding more weapons and content, recovering the Salmon Run and adding a new obsession: the Territorial Fight mode, a card game inside of the game itself. Being bored in Tintelia is totally prohibited.
19. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
A must stop for any Star Wars fan. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga brings together all three Star Wars movie trilogies in one game. The story is essentially the same, but some moments are added and/or slightly modified to introduce the signature LEGO humor. Ideal for Padawans to take their first steps into the force.
18. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Very few 2022 games have as much magic, color, laughter and action as the wacky adventure of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. The latest installment of the franchise Borderlands takes his signature humor and action levels and weaves them into a new medieval setting based on the board games of Dungeons and Dragons. It is a sure hit.
17. Return to Monkey Island
The essence of picaresque made into a video game. Return to Monkey Island is synonymous with hilarious puzzles, colorful characters and absurd situations that constantly seek to make the player smile with complicity. Guybrush Threepwood and LeChuck are back with a completely revamped look, that’s obvious, and verbless gameplay, but their next great adventure revalidates and expands on everything you loved about the best installments.
16. Pokemon Scarlet and Purple
Performance issues have caused Pokémon Scarlet and Purple to They are not the best installments in the saga, but they have stayed very close to it. The journey through the Paldea region is unforgettable, full of surprises and Pokémon to catch, with a gigantic open world divided into three impressive stories to complete at your own pace.
15. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
Dotemu leading and us in command… together with friends. So Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge has confirmed what we all expected: a beat’em up from tome and back with which to break heads. It has never been so much fun to control each of the characters in the franchise.
14. Horizon Forbidden West
Aloy has returned after waiting five years and the truth is that we welcome her with open arms. Horizon Forbidden West has become one of the best reasons to have a PS5 and enjoy all the graphic splendor of a vast Forbidden West to explore.
13. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
Con Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope regresa the crazy combination of universes between the characters from the Mushroom Kingdom and the Ubisoft rabbits, with even more strategic combat and at the same time with greater freedom in the scenarios so that the adventure is more spectacular in all its aspects.
12. Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Marvel’s Midnight Suns came late to our consoles and PCs, but it came in very strong. And that has double merit: it’s not easy to please fans of tactical role-playing games and fans of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes at the same time. That Firaxis, the creators of XCOM, are behind it already predicted that he would be a great game, but the big surprise was how passionate they are about Marvel characters. The result: a joy.
11. Gran Turismo 7
Elegance, speed and an attention to detail that borders on the sick. Gran Turismo 7 has raised the bar for the franchise on all levels. All the cars have been scanned to the centimeter inside and out to offer the highest possible fidelity. Driving has never been so satisfying and responsive thanks to incredible physics and the DualSense.
10. Grounded
Subnautica ruined survival games for me, but Grounded has reconciled me to them. Few games are capable of making you feel like a child again, and for someone who grew up remembering what it would be like to have a pet ant, this game is simply a must. Exploration, details, surprises… Of the best he has done Microsoft in a while.
9. Card Shark
Return Digital He doesn’t usually stitch without thread, but it must be recognized that with this one they jumped into the pool without knowing what was coming their way. As they usually have a flower up their ass, this time they also did well and Card Shark ended up being an incredible peach full of amazing mini-games and a story to frame. I wish more games this brave.
8. Repentance
If Obsidian needed to show that they are a study capable of anything, with Pentiment they have been crowned. The best narrative adventure of 2022 It bears his stamp and is a demonstration of how to learn history and culture while hopelessly trapping us in a murder mystery full.
7. A Plague Tale: Requiem
Asobo Studio has done it again. With the first installment of the saga, a masterpiece was already marked and he has achieved it again with A Plague Tale: Requiem. One of those video games that easily conquers you due to its amazing artistic section and an even more exciting plot in which Amicia and Hugo once again face the fearsome plague of rats and other adversities.
6. Xenoblade Chronicles 3
2022 could perfectly be the best year for Nintendo Switch to date due to the number of great games it has received. Without a doubt, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is one of the best releases we’ve seen in the last 12 months and also to date on the Nintendo console. A simply outstanding JRPG from the first minute and that does not stop earning more points as the tens of hours that it can last go by.
5. Sifu
It may be one of those games that, because of leaving it abandoned in a drawer since the beginning of the year, has been erased from the memory of many after all this time. You can rest easy, we continue to have him on an altar and we are going to praise him whenever we can. Sifu is a GOTY that you don’t believe it.
4. Marvel Snap
I can’t see your face, but I can picture it, and yes, you haven’t misread. Marvel Snap is one of the best games of the year for many reasons, but in order to understand it you will have to fall for this drug as everyone who has refused to believe it has done after trying it. Turning a cumbersome and complex card game into a pastime for a few minutes that is closer to a puzzle than to cards is an achievement. Get it to the level that it has Ben Brod It’s to take off your hat. You’ll have to give it a chance before judging further.
3. Bayonetta 3
The third installment of this saga that we love so much in these parts smells like those responsible have wanted to go wild when it comes to putting all the crazy ideas that have crossed their minds just in case. In case in the end it turns out that there is no more Bayonetta in the future. An excessive game in every way that, despite having its little things, has slipped into this third position on its own merits. If your thing is to distribute good hosts, in Bayonetta 3 you have an essential.
2. Elden Ring
I imagine that no one is surprised to see Elden Ring in second position. The last work to date FromSoftware The iGamesNews team has liked it a lot and it was widely believed that it was going to occupy a very high position on the list. If for whatever reason you like open world, challenging RPGs and you are not very given to Souls, this might just fit you. If you like Souls, surely you have already played it.
1. God of War Ragnarök
Kratos y Atreus They have taken first place with the force of twenty thousand soles. It is the only game, moreover, with which the entire team has agreed when evaluating it during the preparation of this list. In the rest of the games there have been internal notes of all colors until they were adjusted in their current positions, but no other has achieved such unanimity. God of War Ragnarök has it all: a good story, very well outlined characters, a good handful of interesting subplots, and a level of action capable of leaving anyone in diapers. Without being perfect (nor does it need to be), It’s amazing on all levels.
Now, as I said at the beginning, comments are all yours. We would like to see what other games you miss on this list, even if it is to try them if we have not done so and make them known to the rest.
