New name, new plans. The DCEU is now called DC Universe, but the name change doesn’t stop there. DC reinvents itself: This is how the plans of the newly founded DC Studios endanger beloved franchises. “Wonder Woman 3” also has to worry.
- With the re-establishment of DC Studios and the new heads at the helm, the DCEU is completely reinventing itself.
- Now the DCEU is called DC Universe and is to be completely restructured thanks to a 10-year plan.
- But the plans also mean that some previously planned films may never be made.
Everything new, everything better? It doesn’t sound like that at first when you hear the plans of the recently founded DC Studio. Behind the scenes at the DC Universe (formerly DCEU), the engines are rattling at full speed and with big wheels, they could run over some popular franchises with it.
A few years ago, DC decided to build their own superhero universe, modeled on Marvel. But what worked incredibly well with the competition didn’t really catch on at DC. Unlike Marvel, the comic publisher did not have one large universe in which all heroes lived and fought together, but many different ones.
In addition to the classic DCEU, where the “Justice League” is based, among other things, there was also the Arrowverse, in which series like “The Flash” are located, and numerous individual films like “The Batman”, which was released at the beginning of the year, in no existing universe fits.
So far, so confusing, found many fans. But that should be over in the future, the DC reinvents itself completely. According to the US magazine “The Hollywood ReporterAfter DC Studios’ launch, newly hired CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran are meticulously planning every next step. They’re already developing a slew of superhero movies for the next 10 years and beyond.
But the planned changes not only bring us new films and series, but could also take away those that have already been announced, as they no longer fit into the new concept. The “Justice League” and “Wonder Woman 3” in particular could suffer from this.
