Even small Windows tips can make the Vault Boy and I happy.

I’ve been playing on the PC under Windows for ages and a problem occurs again and again: If a game freezes, it can happen that in exclusive full-screen mode it also closes the screen when switching to the desktop using a key combination Alt+Tab continues to hold. At first glance, there is no way to change this without restarting the PC.

The mouse pointer is then still visible and I can move it, sometimes the taskbar can also be clicked on and the start menu can be clicked using a key combination Strg+ESC open briefly – but only to close again immediately.

It is then obvious to close the game using the key combination Alt+F4 or the task manager. But it happens to me again and again that this key combination has no effect and that the Task Manager window disappears immediately after opening. What now?

Apropos What now?: You can see how Windows reacts when you delete the System32 folder in this video:

Second desktop instead of restart

My solution to the problem described above that is not restart the computer means is simple. It works via the Windows function to open an additional desktop interface.

To do this, you have to use the key combination after starting the task manager Ctrl+Shift+ESC just the keyboard shortcut Windows + Tab-Taste press and top left New desktop click.

Now you can move all open windows from one desktop to the other using Drag&Drop, as shown in this example:

So far it has reliably given me access to the task manager every time I’ve moved it to the second desktop. Here you only have to right-click on the game or the process that hogs the screen on the first desktop and Task End choose.
