So was the ceremony as crazy as expected? What did the Game Awards 2022 have in store for us? There are big announcements and very nice surprises.

This Thursday night, the video game industry held its 31st in celebration of the Game Awards 2022. A ceremony lasting more than three and a half hours that tied awards and game announcements together. A show that will no doubt remain in the annals as Geoff Keighley had failed to surprise for so long. Between games that nobody expected, rumors confirmed, release dates or great updates, here is the big recap of this TGA 2022.

From Hades 2 to Bayonetta Origins, big surprises at The Game Awards 2022

Game Awards 2022 Summary

Publishers didn’t bother with the Game Awards 2022. The ceremony has been an unmissable event for several years and also serves as a springboard for developers to showcase their games or communicate about them in a powerful way. Geoff Keighley had promised a show full of surprises and the bastard wasn’t lying. Hades 2 came out of nowhere and was actually announced for the current year 2023 in Early Access. A direct sequel to the critically and commercially successful roguelike, the title will feature Melinoë, princess of the underworld and sister of Zagreus. A title in the vein of its predecessor that will carry titanic expectations on its shoulders.

Some fans got a heart attack from the first images, but no, it wasn’t Bioshock 4. Ghost Story Games, the new studio of the creator of the cult license, has finally presented its first game: Judas. An FPS that takes all the codes it loves, but aims to be something more than a bioshock in space. At least we hope so. Among the new games that didn’t exist leak, Bayonetta Origins has created a surprise. As a prequel to the franchise, the off the beaten path title will tell the story of Cereza up until her transformation into a seasoned witch. The date is set for March 17, 2023, still exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

For their part, FromSoftware fans were not only pleased with the dedication of Elden Ring to the sacrosanct title GOTY. The Japanese studio will continue not to release Bloodborne 2 to players, but will revive one of its equally popular licenses with Armored Core 6. This unexpected new work will be available in 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC via Steam. The French from Don’t Nod also used the Game Awards 2022 to present their new project: Banishers Ghosts of New Eden.

Release dates galore and highly anticipated announcements

How to talk about the Game Awards 2022 without mentioning your returning guest: Hideo Kojima. The teasing hasn’t been subtle in several weeks, it was Death Stranding 2 that was announced as a PS5 exclusive. No exit window, we only know that Sam and Fragile will replace for new adventures. However, adventure seekers can head out in search of the mysteries hidden in the trailer. Highly anticipated since the anime box set on Netflix, the Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC also used the Game Awards 2022 to cause a surprise. In addition to new images of the expansion, it was above all the announcement of Idris Elba in the casting that attracted the attention of the audience.

In terms of additional content, not to mention Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores, DLC that leaked a few hours before D-Day Aloy will set out to discover a deserted Los Angeles from April 2023, only on PS5 The Game Awards 2022 also unveiled some much-anticipated announcements. Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League has finally announced its release date while also confirming the presence of Batman, played by Kenvin Conroy one final time.

Coming straight from a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars Jedi Survivor has finally revealed its first gameplay sequences and some environments for you to discover on March 17th on PS5, Xbox Series and PC. Diablo 4 also returned with a release date and an explosive trailer accompanied by a musical performance from singer Halsey. The 2022 Game Awards also ended with Final Fantasy 16. While the surprise was spoiled, the game still provided the show with a terrific trailer that hints at a far more promising action-RPG than its debut. PS5 players can therefore discover the epic story of Clive from June 22, 2023.
