Nightingale: The Survival Hope features new gameplay
What was Nightingale again?
If you’re hearing about Nightingale for the first time, here’s a little recap of what the survival game is all about:
In the fictional timeline of Nightingale, thanks to the help of magical beings, mankind not only has a technological breakthrough, but also a magical one. Fantastic places, so-called realms, are explored with all kinds of portals.
The epicenter of all things magical is the town of Nightingale. In 1889, however, an incident destroys all magical portals and you are lost in one of the many realms. We get a little insight into the legendary city in the following trailer:

Survival hope Nightingale shows fantastic open worlds that you design yourself
In classic survival style you build your base and fight against hunger and thirst. New portals lead you to more open worlds with new dangers, but also resources. One day you might make it back to Nightingale too. According to the developer, you can experience the fun alone, but the focus is on the co-op aspect and the shared world mechanics. So you will occasionally encounter strangers.
New info?
So far, Inflexion Games has been a little silent on how Nightingale will ultimately play. So we only got to see small gameplay snippets in the new trailer. Thanks to a small pre-presentation, we didn’t go completely empty-handed. We summarize:
- How big and how many open worlds? In order to enter a new realm, so-called realm cards are required. The combination of your cards ultimately decides what the new world will look like. An exact number has not yet been mentioned, but the developers are talking about “several dozen realm maps.” A realm should be almost 2 square kilometers in size.
- How many players? At the start of the early access phase, up to six players could play together in one realm. In the course of the development process, however, the number could increase.
- New movement options: As already seen in the trailer, there is the umbrella with which you can float over the open worlds like Mary Poppins. You can also use a bird’s eye view to scout for your next travel point. It is not yet clear whether you will briefly control an eponymous bird like in the newer Assassins Creed games or use your magical abilities to take a look from above.
- main realm: In the first world you will build your most important base. By the way, you can decide for yourself which world that is. If you die – no matter in which realm – you spawn again in these four walls. You lose your backpack and its contents, but you can also get it back. Any clothes and what you held in your hands during your death are not lost.
- is there a story In the case of former BioWare developers, the question of a story is of course justified. The lore seems to be very detailed, but there won’t be a big epic. Over time, a few recurring characters will also come into play who will entertain you with quests. At the start of the early access phase, these are not yet included.
- Early Access, was dann? Thanks to seasonal updates, Nightingale will be regularly improved with new content, but the survival game will also be provided with updates and add-ons after the full version has been released.
There are also a few new screenshots that we don’t want to withhold from you:
When is it coming out? Nightingale should actually be flickering across our screens, the early access start was originally scheduled for 2022. However, the change from Unreal Engine 4 to its successor number 5 took some time, which is why the new release in the first half of 2023 should take place.
The game was announced almost exactly a year ago, also at the Game Awards. You can watch the reveal trailer here:
