No one can deny that Xbox’s presence at the recent The Game Awards sucked. It can’t even be said to be anecdotal, because even though Phil Spencer himself attended the ceremony – which would have been an indicator of possible announcements – none ended up coming to fruition. Just an Xbox Game Pass trailer and prize for “As Dusk Falls,” which at least brought Xbox Game Studios to the scene. After that, Aaron Greenberg launched a tweet that caused a lot of talk, assuring that we would see very soon what Xbox has in store for us in the future. Was he referring to some sort of event?
Of course, nothing has been confirmed and no member of the Xbox staff has spoken about it. For now, the only thing we have is a very big silence in the industry’s most important event of the year, because despite everything, The Game Awards has been full of announcements, surprises and an interesting dynamic. But maybe you have your explanation. And we’re not referring to those rumors that say that’s not to give regulators an excuse for buying Activision. Rather, it’s because it seems like they want to show more stuff…in private.
Is it some kind of X023? The event everyone is waiting for
So says Jez Corden in an article for Windows Centralsaying he’s heard some juicy ones, but unverified rumors that Microsoft is exploring the possibility of doing some sort of event in early 2023, possibly in the style of the X019 that was made before the pandemic. Of course, we can’t validate the rumor, even if it comes from a reliable source like Corden, but Greenberg’s own tweet we alluded to reveals them.
Maybe it was Aaron who came forward to assuage the discontent of the fans? Probably, but clearly part of this criticism comes precisely from the fact that Xbox has a lot to show, many games in its room that they only need gameplay and a date to destroy. This year, we have secured at least 2 major AAAs among the most anticipated: Starfield and Redfall. But with every step we take in 2023, we have a better chance of seeing Xbox’s true future. Fable, Hellblade 2, Perfect Dark, a new Gears, the future is bright… but we need it now!
