While the karakuri and weapons you will wield will help you bring down your mighty prey, you may find that knowledge is your greatest asset. Understanding your enemies—their strengths and weaknesses—can very well mean the difference between success and failure.
For a long time this beast was the bane of the hunter
From every inch of its sickly smooth form, the Rasetsu, or Deathstalker, exudes an unrelenting icy cold. Where water does not grace the land, this kemono can conjure huge chunks of ice from which to create beautiful boundaries of its territory, known to hunters as “ice castles.” When necessary, it hunts in packs, bringing down its prey with frightening speed. But it has an equally frightening strength that becomes all too apparent in one-on-one combat with other Kemono. The Deathstalker is one of the strongest Kemonos in Azuma, and it is said that a hunter’s experience is measured by whether or not they have defeated one.
A fearless opponent
Deathstalkers are fierce and territorial, and are most commonly seen fighting other kemono, even larger and more powerful ones. They are fast fighters with a variety of attacks. They are known to charge or leap at their enemy to close the gap for melee combat.
A cold that gives even winter a break
Born in the midst of climate chaos, this kemono can withstand extremely low temperatures. His blood has turned into a liquid similar to liquid nitrogen and cannot freeze. Its body temperature adapts to its environment and it can even freeze the air with its breath. This massive beast can create columns of ice by striking with its hind legs, or stop a hunter with a blast of its icy breath.
Though the chill it exudes can be deadly, it’s wise to keep its massive claws and fangs in mind when battling the deathstalker. The beast can also cloak itself in icy armor. All of these aspects, combined with lightning-fast speed and the wolf’s natural aggressiveness, make it a worthy opponent for even the most seasoned hunter.
Before confronting a deathstalker, consider how best to counter their many strengths. You may find explosive or fire-based weapons and karakuri to be the most effective, so venture into this beast’s territory well-prepared if you want to triumph.
The country of wolves
You still want to face this powerful enemy? Very good, hunter. Look for it near Ōtsuki Castle. Silent except for the howling winds, the frozen fort is covered in snow and ice, an ancient fortress frozen in endless winter. Look across the snowfields and you’ll see a mountaintop fortress ripped in two by a massive kemono. This is where you will find your loot.
