It would have been too nice if an update of the magnitude of the new next-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3 went through without any problems. CD Projekt RED has now commented on a few things.
The next-gen upgrade from The Witcher 3 is on everyone’s lips – in both a positive and negative sense. While we got along pretty well with the admittedly very hardware-hungry update on our test machines, numerous users report various problems with the update.
A problem has already been resolved with a hotfix, namely that some players in certain territories on the PS5 did not have access to the extensions. But there is still a lot more on the list of problems, which the CDPR now also has in the official forum posted and continues to ask for feedback on any issues.
Among other things, there is talk of crashes on the PC, poor ray tracing performance on Intel processors and the generally heavy hardware requirements when using all ray tracing effects, which are also clearly below the ray tracing mode on the consoles push the hoped-for 30 fps.
CD Projekt RED points out that you should make sure to use the latest graphics card drivers. Prior to the update, NVIDIA had already released a new Game Ready driver with optimizations for the update. Furthermore, two versions of the game are available: a DirectX 11 version that does without ray tracing and some of the graphical improvements, and the DirectX 12 version with all features and improvements. Gamers with weaker hardware are recommended to use the DirectX 11 version.
As a further solution to severe performance problems, it is pointed out that Steam and GOG have the option of rolling back to an earlier version of the game without the next-gen upgrade.
