Here is Read You, the application I use to read the news and not miss anything

To catch up on the news, we can go to Google News, but in my case, I like nothing more than a feed reader. Also out of necessity, I use my mobile to read the news every day and being a loyal Feedly user one day i decided to change and i met Read You.

This modest app met my expectations and will continue to improve in the future as it is still in development, adding cool features and improving the user experience. However, he became my main application to discover the latest news From the phone.

Do you read, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication

The notion of Do you read nace from Reeder, a popular iOS app. Reeder is used because of its neat design and simplicity. This is where Read You was born, which aims to be a quality alternative to Google’s mobile operating system. I found it by chance, while looking for free apps in the F-Droid repository and it was love at first sight.

Design is the key to Read You and that’s it follows the Android style language, Material You. On other occasions, we’ve spoken in depth about Material You, and that app feels right. Navigating through its menus is a pleasant experience, we especially notice the fluidity and simplicity when it comes to showing its capabilities.

When I first installed this application, I thought I would find an interface to build, but quite the contrary: Read You has the functions just and orderly in a clear and concise manner.

A tour of the app: follow your flows in a clean and functional way

This application is a good alternative to follow RSS feeds, because it stands out for its design and ease of use. Every day I check the main screen several times for important news of the day, these are added as they sync the feeds I have added. I turned on the hourly refresh option so I don’t have to hit the update button.

To add a stream, just tap the “+” symbol at the top right. The application will display a window allowing us to enter the URL of the feed in question, as an alternative, you can import an OPML file with all the fonts you used in other similar applications. The first time after installing it, I was able to import my personal file without any problems.

In the lower menu we have the three main sections: featured, unread and archived. Starting with the first, this section will gather all the news that we mark as exceptional, very useful if we ever want to re-read a particular one or if we do not have time, to read it later.

The second section of the application is the most used: this “unread” section will be the initial screen (although you can configure it as you wish). Here we will see the news sorted by publication date and clicking on any of them will open a comfortable and clean player. We can change the reading page to our liking, modifying options such as the type of font, the style of the reader or the title, among other parameters.

The the customization offered by Read You is of a high level. In this way, the action of reading news from our feeds will be more adjusted to our preferences, which, on the other hand, is appreciated.

To finish with the main sections, the archived section contains, as its name suggests, the news that we have already marked as read. I don’t normally go here but I may have marked a news by mistakeand it’s good to always have them on hand, in case we missed something.

The settings are very comprehensive and you can change almost everything

Entering Read You settings is as easy as tapping the cogwheel in the top left corner. Once we enter the settings screen will be displayed, The aspects that we can change are::

• accounts: We can use both local accounts (which would be lost if we did not save them before formatting the mobile) or online accounts which will be available soon, services such as Feedly, FreshRSS or Google Reader appear here. As the app is under development, these features are not active, but the developer improves the app every few weeks.

• color and style: This option displays the attachment of the application to the Android design language. We will see a screen where we can change the accent color, as we can do on Android. It also has a dark mode and the option to change the style of the three pages, the source page, the reading page and the feed page. This is one of the strengths of Read You because we can customize it in detail.

• Interaction: This third parameter is used to modify the behavior of the application. We can change the initial page that we see when opening it as well as the initial filter.

• Languages ​​and tips: The last two configurations correspond to two less important aspects. Read You is available in several languages, including Spanish. Finally, the advice section offers us useful links to learn more about him, such as his Telegram channel.

And so far that’s all that’s what Read You offers us as a newsreader. If you are looking for a good feed reader, you won’t regret choosing it. It has a lot of customization and its design is another advantage. I wanted to replace my old app and found one that meets my needs.
