Masses of aliens have flooded into human systems after weeks of mysterious objects haunting the Milky Way. What sounds like the plot of a sci-fi flick is actually taking place in the virtual galaxy of Elite Dangerous.
Meanwhile, the giant maelstroms turned out to be some kind of mother ship, surrounded by deadly clouds of acid and apparently the starting point for the Thargoid fleets. The alien species went from being passive or occasional to being at war after the story failed colossally in a human attempt to destroy them with a superweapon.
Now commanders are not only fighting for mere survival in the bubble, i.e. the regions of the Milky Way colonized by humans, but also for their virtual home itself. Because now entire systems and, according to the developer Frontier, the entire bubble can fall into the hands of the Thargoids, what would likely force humanity to retreat to the distant frontier systems of Colonia.

Everything is at stake
The players are reluctant to be chased out of their beloved bubble, that’s for sure. Some also doubt that Frontier would actually implement such a major cut as the complete loss of the bubble (including the protected newbie systems). But you can’t be so sure.
The space flight game recently got the long-awaited first-person shooter elements with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. In the video for the release we examined the innovations:

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey – Space sim becomes a first-person shooter, and it sounds like it
In any case, players are currently fighting wildly with the Thargoids for the systems. The war is on, more intense than ever before and, as far as we know, with greater risks for all fans of the game. Accordingly, successes are celebrated fervently, preferably in the best role-playing manner:

The Price of War
Thousands of player ships have been destroyed in the Battle of Wakata Station so far. Among other things, because of new alien ship variants, which are particularly dangerous and also pose a danger to commanders who have already gained a lot of experience as Thargoid hunters.
The sweet taste of victory is currently short-lived in Elite Dangerous. Eager observers are already reporting the next systems where the Thargoid Maelstroms are expected.

However it ends, this is an exciting time for Elite fans. The stakes have never been so high, and fighters seldom had more to do. Oh man, really stupid that my ship is hanging in the void somewhere halfway towards Hutton Orbital. Right now, humanity could really use my Fer-de-Lance.
