It’s no mystery to anyone that the digital format increasingly dominates sales -unfortunately for some- the video game industry.
Though it never hurts to know exactly with recorded data, what is the difference between physical and digital formats in terms of sales. This is why thanks to GameIndustry Thanks to Newzoo, we can find out how this year has gone in this regard.
More precisely, we have to 72% of total console game sales were digital. Which leaves us with the remaining 28% for physical games. on computer the balance is tilting radically towards the digital format, with 98% of sales (which shouldn’t surprise anyone now).
What is the total sales if we add all the platforms?
if we get together all platforms combined, we were left with 94.2% for digital games and the remaining 5.8% for physicists. I’m counting on it Nintendo, among others, does not provide its sales data in digital format.
Regarding the benefits, this year there has been a 4% drop in the digital format compared to 2021, with some 162.4 billion dollars. In the physical the fall was even greater, with 10% less compared to last year and profits of around 10 billion dollars.
What do you think of these data? What importance do you give to each format? You can tell us about it here in the Xbox area.
I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember, so you could say I like talking about it.
