They say a picture is worth a thousand words and it’s also easier to share, so it’s understandable that the popularity of screenshot on Android are increasing. The feature was officially introduced in Android 4.0, although some layers of customization like Samsung’s have had it before.
Now the million dollar question is how to take a screenshot with my android mobile. The answer is the same we’ve used so many other times on Android: it depends. Different manufacturers have come up with different ways to take screenshots: here you’ll find instructions for most of today’s Android phones.
the official way
The official way to take a screenshot on Android hasn’t changed for five years: you have to Simultaneously press the power key and the volume down key. Hold both keys for a second and a flash on the screen and a sound will notify you that a screenshot has been taken.
Several manufacturers respect this method, but not at all. As you will see below, there are countless variations that show us that Android fragmentation is on the agenda beyond system updates.
the general rule
We have already seen the official form, but it is not always filled out. Instead, there is another premise which is (almost) always true, although it is more flexible. To take a screenshot on the vast majority of Android phones, you need to press two physical buttons at the same time.
Taking into account that there are usually four physical buttons: Power, Home (although it is almost no longer a physical button), Volume Up and Volume Down, and that it is rare that the two volume buttons are combined because sometimes they can’t be pressed at the same time, that leaves us with five possibilities:
- started and started
- Power and volume up
- Power and volume down
- Home and Volume Boost
- Home and volume down
It is almost certain that one of the combinations above will take a screenshot on your mobile. In any case, it is necessary press both keys at the same time and hold them down for at least a second.
With the Google Assistant
Now that the Google Assistant is available in Spanish and for many devices, you have a new way to take screenshots: through the wizard. It’s not the fastest way, but if for some reason you can’t use other methods (eg a button doesn’t work), there’s another option.
To take a screenshot with the Google Assistant, you need to launch the assistant either by long pressing the Home button or by calling it out loud, Ok Google. If you are in an application and not on the Desktop, one of the options to choose is called Share screenshot.
This method has a downside -or upside, depending on how you look at it- and that is that the screenshot don’t save to gallery from your mobile. Right after taking it, you have to choose who you want to send it to with apps like WhatsApp or Messenger.
Screenshots on Samsung mobiles
Samsung has an arsenal of models in the market and hence there are differences in how to take screenshots. The “classic” way to take a screenshot is to simultaneously press started and started.
However, the latest Samsung terminals do not have a physical home button, so it is also possible to take a screenshot with the standard Android standard: press simultaneously Power and volume down. This is possible even in “old” terminals with a physical start button, which support both combinations.
Another way to take screenshots on Samsung phones is slide the edge of the hand to the right side, swiping across the screen. This method must be enabled in mobile settings for it to work.
Screenshots on Sony mobiles
Sony has a slightly different method of taking screenshots than other manufacturers. First you need to hold down the key Alight until the opening Contextual menu off. One of these options is Screenshot. Tap it to capture it.
If that does not convince you to do it in two steps and you prefer the classic way, it is also available. That is, you can simultaneously press the key Power button and volume down to take screenshots on a Sony mobile.
Screenshots on LG mobiles
LG uses the standard Android system to take screenshots. In other words, you must simultaneously press the keys of Power and volume down. The only difference is that in this case the on/off button can be behind it.
Screenshots on Huawei mobiles
Another brand joining the Android norm is Huawei, at least in its latest models. To take a screenshot, simultaneously press the buttons Power and volume down. On some models, it is also possible to take screenshots double punchas if you were knocking on the door.
Screenshots on Xiaomi mobiles
Xiaomi has also opted for the standard Android method of taking screenshots, both in its MIUI system and in its pure Android terminals. The method is the same: simultaneously press the buttons of Power and volume down.
Screenshots on HTC mobiles
On HTC mobiles, you can use the traditional Android method to take screenshots. That is, by simultaneously pressing the button Power and volume down. If this combination surprises you a little, many classic models with a physical home button also allow you to take a screenshot by pressing the home key. Power and home button.
Screenshots on ASUS mobiles
Screenshots on ASUS phones are taken using the standard Android key combination. That is, you need to simultaneously press the button Power and volume down. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that on older models the volume buttons are on the back.

It doesn’t matter if your Motorola mobile is from old Motorola or Lenovo Motorola because the method to take screenshot is the same. You must simultaneously press the button Power and volume downuntil you are notified by animation and sound that the screenshot has been taken.
Screenshots on BQ mobiles
The Spanish-Vietnamese brand BQ keeps things simple and includes the standard way to take screenshots on their phones. Thus, it suffices to simultaneously press the buttons of Power and volume down to take a screenshot.
Screenshots on OnePlus mobiles
OnePlus joins the majority in adopting the standard mode for taking screenshots on Android. That is to say, by simultaneously pressing the Power button and volume down buttonwhich in this case are at opposite ends.
Screenshots on Nexus / Pixel mobiles
As you’d expect, Google follows the official Android rules. To take a screenshot, follow the usual procedure: simultaneously press the button Power and volume down until you hear animation and sound to let you know the capture is complete.
Screenshots on Nokia mobiles
Nokia has gone with Stock Android for its mobiles, so it was predictable that the way to take screenshots would be the normal way for Android, and it is. To take a screenshot on a Nokia mobile, simultaneously press the button Power and volume down.
