charger, devices, lacks, perfect, simultaneously

Do you remember Air Power? In September 2017, Apple announced a device designed to charge our iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch at the same time. A sort of loading mat that one could place devices freely to receive power and replenish their batteries. An AirPower, but that never happened.

It was slated for release in 2018, but it never appeared except in a few leaks. Later, in 2019, Apple confirmed that it was leaving the project. The reason for this, as far as we know, had to do with the heating generated by the number of coils needed to cover the entire charger area.

A bit of Apple design, but very interesting

Now, Tesla took over and launched the Tesla Wireless Charging Platform. A $300 charger capable of simultaneously charging three Qi-enabled devices. With the company’s own design line, inspired by the Cybertruck, it has a fairly angular aluminum exterior and a velvety interior to place our devices.

It also comes with a magnetic stand that we can use if we prefer to use the charging base at a certain angle instead of completely flat on the table. And, according to Tesla, “incorporates FreePower technologywhich charges your Qi-enabled devices such as phones or headphones placed anywhere on its surface without precise alignment.

From the point of view of Apple users, the similarity with what AirPower wanted to be is more than considerable. Generally speaking, however, we have already seen other similar charging devices appear on the market. Devices, yes, which are missing a small detail, but very important to be able to offer the maximum potential: charge apple watch.

The Apple Watch has used Qi technology since its first generation, but the size of the watch makes it need a coil of a specific and unconventional size. In the original AirPower, Apple solved this situation by including coils of different sizes on the charging surface. Something that, all things considered, could well have contributed to the excessive heating of the device and which is not envisaged in this Tesla charger.

One of the most interesting chargers to comfortably charge our iPhone and AirPods. A charger, yes, which will only be available in February 2023, according to the same Tesla site. A charger that constitutes one more proposal to the number of options we already have when charging our devices in the way that suits us best.
