Don't count on Square Enix's exclusive products on the next console for now.
As part of its third quarter (PDF) revenue report for fiscal year 2020, Square Enix Looking ahead in the coming months. In particular, the publisher gently touched on the theme of the next-generation console.
President Yosuke Matsuda was asked if Square Enix is already developing the next generation of games. Matsuda revealed that because both the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be backward compatible with the current version of the game, the publisher intends to offer its games in both generations.
As for the next generation of games, Matsuda said it will take a while to wait for that time.
Matsuda told investors: "The next generation of consoles will be backward compatible, so we plan to temporarily provide our new games to both current and next generation consoles."
"Thus, the title of our game specifically for the next generation of consoles will go further."
Of course, this is not surprising. Although you will see the next generation of exclusive products at launch, most publishers tend to wait for installs to increase before increasing the number of installs. Even Microsoft has no plans to launch an exclusive Xbox Series X product at least a year after launch.
