Data analytics company New zoo revealed in a newly published report that 72% of video games sold on consoles during 2022 were digital, while boxed video games accounted for 28%. Nintendo generally doesn’t offer digital sales for their first party games, so if they weren’t included in th is report as I suspect, then digital video game sales would be even higher than the number listed. Digital is obviously the most convenient way for most people to get their games and sometimes the cheapest due to sales and promotions, although you can generally get boxed games such as new editions etc cheaper if you buy from various retailers such as Amazon and other game retailers for a while.
