The 4X space strategy game X4: Foundations has been available since November 2018, but the makers are far from seeing an end in sight. Instead, Egosoft has now announced the fourth major expansion for the new year 2023.
Egosoft has officially unveiled the next chapter of the long-running space strategy game X4: Foundations. This is X4: Kingdom End, the fourth expansion for X4: Foundations, which was originally released for the PC in November 2018 and has since been regularly optimized and provided with new content. The new add-on is scheduled to be released for PC in 2023, is now listed on Steam and GOG, but has no specific release date yet.
What exactly can you expect in the expansion? X4: Kingdom End primarily celebrates the long-awaited reunion with the Borons and completes the collection of the most important factions in the X-Universe. You can look forward to the unique Boron ships and fly with them on a voyage of discovery through special systems. Fascinating new places, old secrets and new acquaintances await you.
Thematically, it’s about the following: Heretic’s downfall hides a secret that needs to be revealed. Flickering lights on a previously inactive jumpgate cause unrest. Working together, a multi-faction expedition joins forces to investigate the phenomenon. Prepare yourself for a collaborative journey in an adventure where very different minds must work together for the common good.
The comprehensive update to version 6.00 for X4: Foundations will be released at the same time as the add-on. This free patch makes all sorts of improvements to the base game. The main changes are indicated as follows:
- Position Defense – a new feature that allows you to have a carrier-led fleet defend a larger area
- New camera mode for cinematic cutscenes
- Improvements in areas such as AI combat and fleet behavior, trading behavior, boarding, salvage, docking experience, flight path calculation, low-attention combat simulation, and the station editor
