Update [Fri 30th Dec, 2022 06:00 GMT]: Bertil Hörberg has announced news about his new game Onion Assault. It will be coming to the Switch eShop on January 26, 2023 for $7.99 / £7.19.
Original article [Tue 29th Nov, 2022 10:45 GMT]: Bertil Hörberg, the Swedish game developer who brought us the modern classic 3DS title Gunman Clive, recently unveiled Onion Assault, an upcoming platformer that looks like an homage to Super Mario Bros. 2.
Based on the trailer above and additional footage from Hörberg’s tweet below, the game focuses on the ability to jump onto enemy heads and pull beggars into the air before throwing them at whatever you see fit. This, of course, also applies to the various items you come across on your journey, including – you guessed it – port. Also, can we talk about how the leaves seem to bounce to the music? Divan!
The game may have flown under your radar until now because Hörberg seems to handle almost every aspect of its development and release exclusively, citing previous tweet that leading a team previously led to burnout. Having said that, the game is still the end result of a collaborative effort, with artwork led by Daniel Riber Olsen and Felicia Hellsten, and music by Arne Hörberg.
Onion Assault was recently submitted for review on Steam and is currently on its way to being released on the Switch in January 2023. Judging by the wonderful gameplay shown in the trailer, this definitely looks like something to watch out for!
