Could 2023 really be the year I played more new games and spent less time working through my backlog? Absolutely no way!
This weekend I will be hosting a New Year’s party, so it will be light games. As far as I know, my friends have never played Wii U, so this will be the perfect opportunity to introduce them to the wonderful world of Nintendo Land. There will probably also be a good dose of Super Mario Party and Nintendo Switch Sports thrown in for good measure.
The rest of the time, however, I’m determined to play more Xenoblade Chronicles 3 because I can’t face the new year anymore. I’ll also be playing Splatoon 3 again because nothing screams ‘bring on 2023’ like playing new games from 2022…

I actual NYE this year will be wasted sans consoles, because I’m going on a little vacation in a cabin by the sea as a FANCY LADY, and me and my partner decided to do a technology-free weekend! Terrible things.
But when I come back in the new January, I will play Outdoor wilderness. Or rather, watching my partner play Outer Wilds (for the first time) and trying not to spoil the surprise. It plays it on the big screen, which leaves me free to play something cool and light on my Switch. I started Dragon Quest Treasures, and it was pretty nice, and I’d love to play more Aka after it gets patched. Chill vibes only, as they say!

The last few days of 2022 I probably won’t be playing much as I squeeze in some final celebrations of what has been a pretty amazing year in person. Chained Echoes continues to dominate my playtime (even though I’m almost at the end), and I think I want to check out last week’s Shredder’s Revenge multiplayer patch last minute.
Really, at the end of the year I spend a lot of time thinking about the games I want to get off the backlog in the next 12 months. Golden Sun is a huge one – I just bounced off of it when it first came out, but I know I’d love it now. I’ve also never played Freedom Planet, and with the sequel coming up, I think it’s about time we put this one to rest. Here’s to 2023 and even better things to come!

I’ll try to squeeze in an hour or so into Sports Story this weekend, but to be honest, I’ll be spending most of my time with my family to welcome the new year.
Having said that, I will also no doubt be playing some more The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I want to finish the game and get it out of the way in a decent amount of time so I’m not completely burnt out on Zelda by the time May rolls around. That’s when Tears of the Kingdom comes out… I thought you should know!

What a year it’s been, especially if you’re a second-time Nintendo Switch owner. I’m currently nearing the end of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion while debating whether to jump on the real remake next. I keep hoping it will come to Switch eventually. Maybe when the real Switch Pro model comes out. Any day…
Game of the week is Pixel Cup Soccer: Ultimate Edition. Not being a mobile gamer, this whole series passed me by until the eShop demo came along, and as a fan of the Kunio sports title, this is simply underwhelming.
I’ll be offline for a while after this last 2022 WAYP entry, so Happy New Year everyone! God, the new one The Legend of Zelda entrance! Is it May 2023 already…?

I will say goodbye to 2022 with Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival. I even have a drum kit, so I can party the night away! Apart from this, I will spend the remaining moments of the year working on the recently released indie games Sports Story and River City Girls 2.
The upcoming release of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has also inspired me to revisit BOTW (as have a few others here), so I’ll probably fire it up at some point over the next few days. Happy New Year and have a great 2023!

I have Chained Echoes and have been wanting to dive into an RPG for a long time. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things and couldn’t resist picking it up — the challenge will be digging in and sticking with it while a dozen other neglected games give me sad eyes.
Alternatively, I have four and a half months to find the last Korok seed in BOTW and raise it my overall completion of 99.91%. to 100. That is definitely worth hours and hours and hours of searching, right?
We hope you all have a great last weekend of 2022! Add the main game you’ll be playing to the poll below and leave a comment with your gaming plans for the celebration ahead!
